A Practical Guide to Spending Children’s School Holidays in Jakarta

As the year draws to a close, children look forward to a much-anticipated long school holiday. This end-of-year break often comes with festive excitement, but for parents, especially those staying in Jakarta, it can also be a challenge. With kids at home for an extended period, you’ll need engaging activities that keep them active, entertained, and continuously learning throughout the holiday season.

No need to worry! Pondok Indah Golf Apartment has put together recommendations for fun, refreshing, and educational activities your little ones can enjoy. Let’s explore the guide below!

Why Are Year-End School Holidays in Jakarta a Unique Challenge for Expat Families?

For expatriate families, the long break at the end of the year presents its own set of challenges. Many expat children are accustomed to the structured environment of international schools, and when the holiday season arrives, the sudden change can feel overwhelming.

Additionally, with many families traveling during this period, children may have fewer opportunities to socialize. That’s why they need holiday activities that not only fill their free time but also help them stay connected, engaged, and comfortable in their environment, even as routines shift during the festive season.

Practical and Beneficial Activity Options for the Holiday Season

The year-end school break gives children plenty of free time, which makes choosing the right activities even more important. To help you get started, here are some effective and beneficial options for expat children in Jakarta!

Join a Day Camp: A Structured and Fun Holiday Solution

Day camps are especially popular during long holidays. These programs provide full-day activities such as sports, arts, and science, keeping kids active, learning, and socially engaged throughout the season.

Popular types of day camps include

Sports Camp: Ideal for active kids who enjoy physical activities.
Art Camp: Perfect for creative children exploring their artistic skills.
Science & Tech Camp: Great for kids curious about experiments, problem-solving, or coding.

Day camps not only enrich children's experiences but also give parents the flexibility to continue daily routines with peace of mind.

Explore Short Hobby Classes

The long break also makes it a great time for kids to join short-term hobby classes. These programs allow children to explore new interests without long commitments. Some enjoyable options include:

Painting or crafting workshops
Music classes
Beginner coding or robotics courses
Kids’ baking or cooking sessions

These activities provide a fun, pressure-free way for children to discover new hobbies and maybe even uncover hidden talents they’d like to develop further.
