If you are lucky enough to have a library in your home you may want to give it a new look and feel. Most libraries are a part of the past home building structure and have lost their appeal. You can make your library new again.
If your library room features a big window area inside try arranging tables and chairs so you can sit and read when the sun is coming in. This can be very inspiring. You will want your library to be comfortable so add some oversized stuffed chairs or a chaise lounge in the room. You will also need some little tables for tea or coffee while you are curled up to a good book. Remodeling an older home is just as easy as remodeling a newer home. If your old home has a library room inside you may be one in a few people that own a mansion. If you need to redecorate your library here are a few tips to help you figure out the right way to go.
If your library features big picture windows then you can use this area to place your tables and chairs for reading. Make the sitting arrangements even more comfortable when you place overstuffed chairs or a chaise lounge at the window. You will also need some small coffee tables for tea and coffee while you are reading a book.A home true library design consultant will work with you to find the style and selection of books that meets your needs and not just try to sell you what they have in stock.
In your library, the bookshelves probably go from wall to wall. You can stack endless amounts of books on the shelves and still not fill them up. This look can be drab and boring so to spruce it up try sorting and placing the books on the shelves by subject. Then add a knick knack on the ends of the subject so you will know what that subject is about before you even get a book down.
For instance, if you have books about traveling you can place all the books on a shelf and then add a small globe at the end. This works great for those who travel and pick up knick-knacks along the way. This can be easy for you to locate a book if you are in a hurry. The possibilities are endless.
You could also incorporate a couple of antique desks depending on the size of the room. A nice roll top desk that has been restored and made out of dark cherry wood, would give it an executive touch, while a big, sprawling desk with chairs on both sides gives the room a touch of class.
And finally, you will want to add an area rug to the floor. Most libraries featured the area rug with the paisley design. You can have that look in your library and accent it with matching tapestries. You may be able to find a rug or have a rug made that features your family crest in the middle. This will be a great touch of class to an old library in your home.
